Social media is a tricky thing.  There can be a lot of misrepresentation on these inter webs. There are catfish, posers, social climbers, wannabes, and straight up pretenders.  But there are some people whose authenticity just shines through.  When you stumble across their feed, you actually feel like you are looking at them, not their representatives. Something about their feed is real, and it draws you in.

These are the feeds that I follow: the real people.  And one of my favs is blogger and fashion maven Mariama Hutson (@itsmariamaaa).  She and I connected over the inter webs and had the opportunity to come together last weekend.  We discovered that we both are from the Midwest (she’s from Detroit and I’m from the Chi), both went to HBCU’s, and we both love a good angle!  What I discovered that we also share, though, is a love for good energy and a good time.  Oh, and I also discovered her gorgeous blog, Wall Street Runway (www.mariamahutson.com) where she she talks fashion and life in a way that’s so conversational you feel like you’re actually talking to her.

It’s funny; as bloggers, some of us are inclined not to reach out, to compete instead of collaborate.  In our quest to be unique and cultivate our own identities, some of us get almost super possessive of our “brand” and start to feel more comfortable separating ourselves from the community.  But what I continue to discover is that there are more of us out here who really value creative connection.  There are a lot of folks who just want to create something interesting.  And when creatives get together, magic happens!

it was such a joy getting to work with Mariama.  She is so creative, full of energy, and has amazing style.  You can get a full dose of all her amazing talent by following her on Instagram (@itsmariamaaa) and checking out her blog, Wall Street Runway at www.mariamahutson.com.  And the next time you stumble across someone’s feed that catches your eye and inspires you a bit, leave them a comment, send them a message, show them some love.  Because it means a lot; real people appreciate the love, and more often than not, will send you that some love right back.  And you never know; it could even be the beginning of a wonderful collaboration.
